The rack went on really easily. Wonder what's about to go wrong ?
Hmmmm - didn't have to wait long to find out. The hole in the
drivers footwell was in the wrong place for the shaft :~( |

While I was designing the dash layout (OK, playing with the dials !!) I had to fit the steering wheel to make sure I could see the speedo clearly. I'm more interested in the Tacho, but you've got to keep Mr SVA happy ;~) Anyway, I was sitting, making the obligatory Brmmmm Brmmmm noises and hurling the car round hair pins, I discovered that I only had one turn lock-to-lock. I know it's suppoesd to be a fast rack, but that's a bit too fast. Great for the track, but crap for parking ! This puzzled me for a bit as the wheel felt that it was coming up agaist a definite 'stop'. Something wrong with the rack ? I peeled back the right hand rack gater, and that was going against the stop OK. Checked the left gater, and the rack was stopping well short of the stop. After much scrutiny I eventual found that the pinch bolt and the end of the steering column was too long and was hitting the chassis. Duhhhh. That wasn't too difficult to fix, but it was a right pig getting the rack gaters back on !!
